I just read that John Travolta turned down the lead role in Chicago three times. The part went to Richard Gere instead.
Travolta and Gere seem to have had somewhat similar careers, in that they were very promising early on, but somewhere in the middle, both kind of fizzled out. Pretty Woman revitalized Gere's career, but nothing like what Pulp Fiction did for Travolta. It felt good to see Travolta shoot back into the stratosphere after that role, but he seems to be unable to make really good movie choices anymore. I'm not just talking about Battlefield Earth, either. A lot of his work seems to have been fairly unimpressive since then - with the sole exception being, maybe, Get Carter or whatever that mob movie was called with Danny Devito, Gene Hackman, and Renee Russo.
