The Punisher

Also, the the trailer for The Punisher is up. Like all trailers, it looks like it could be great. But there are some typical Hollywood scenes in it of Frank Castle making wisecracks in the midst of a fight, or whatever, that have me a little nervous. To do The Punisher right, you would need to make it similar in feeling to Taxi Driver. You'd need to realize in the end that Frank Castle is genuinely a psychopath, not a good buy, but you would also need to understand why he's a psychopath, find him sympathetic, and see him using his psychosis to, at the very least, get rid of worse psychopaths than himself. It also stars John Travolta.

Here is a really good review of the movie over on www.aintitcool.com. These guys can tend to get kind of fan boy-esque, but this particular reviewer seems to have a pretty good take on the other Marvel movies (Xmen2 -- Good, Hulk -- really bad). Check it out.

See i just couldn't get into it. I can appreciate the whole beast within struggle (even in my own personal life at times), but for me, I just saw it as being far too "Poor me, somber me, ANGRY!!!!!!!!, poor me, somber me." I don't know. The scene transitions were really cool however.

I will have to see it, if for no other reason than that it was filmed in the major city closest to where I live, and I think it will be pretty cool to see mass comic book mayhem on the downtown streets of a city that I visit on a relatively frequent basis, rather than some place like New York City that has had more than it's share of comic book stories.
