Day Two

Box Office Results from Day Two are in: $41,337,889. You'd expect Friday or maybe Saturday to be their biggest days, though, and they probably will. But I read that Sunday, actually, is expected to be a very profitable day. I predict $90 million by the close of Sunday.

On a different front, Paige is going out of town for a weekend "women's retreat" at church, meaning that me and the boy will be holed up together, all alone. So what does this mean, practically speaking? Well, ordinarily it would mean lots of pizza, lots of television, lots of going to Barnes and Noble and playing Thomas the Train while daddy reads comic books, but this weekend, we may actually get out of the house a little more. A friend from church, whose wife is also going, invited me over to spend the night tonight so that we could jointly babysit our kids. In return, we're getting pizza and beer, and will play Playstation all weekend. The fact that beer is a normal good in my household, which means I get to drink practically none of it since we're so poor, I'm practically bouncing off the walls right now thinking about it.

Those are amazing numbers. What's most striking is the thought that none of that money is coming from people who want to be entertained, and most likely only a small percentage is coming from the merely curious. The vast majority is coming from people who are going out of religious desire or hoping to make a religious-political statement.

Oh, and enjoy the beer and related good times. I'm off to play a little low-stakes poker.

I know. I was wondering how Kerry and Bush would be interpreting these numbers, actually. It hints at the massive size of religious traditionalists (evangelica, catholic or otherwise) in the nation.
