Mesh Reviews the Passion

Mesh has posted his Pulse review of The Passion. Of all the critical reviews I've (ie, reviews which found the movie lacking, overall, in quality or balance), Mesh's review is the most thought-provoking. Having not seen it, I'm eager to see it and compare my experience with his. Particularly interesting was Mesh's identificaiton of the movie's concept of salvation with medievalism's preoccupation with the goriness of Christ's death. There is a sacramental function to meditating on the death of Christ in medieval theology, according to Mesh, and this movie exhibits that. This is one thing, in Mesh's review, which I had not really heard elsewhere, though I have heard many reviewers criticize the film for its excessive violence.
